New President

Today, December 1st,  Enrique Peña Nieto will be sworn in as Mexico's President. Last night there was a symbolic ceremony at the presidential palace at midnight, in which Felipe Calderón, the outgoing President, turned over control of the armed forces and national security. Today the official swearing in ceremony will be held at Congress.

Peña Nieto is a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which ruled Mexico, under various names, from 1928 to 2000.

Outgoing President Felipe Calderón has accepted a newly created, one-year Fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
