“Service Above Self." This is the motto of Rotary International and its 34,000+ clubs in over 200 countries. The main objectives of this worldwide organization are humanitarian service and the promotion of peace, goodwill, and understanding. With over one million members worldwide, Rotary works towards improving health, supporting education and alleviating poverty.
I came to Mexico with an Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, one of the Rotary Foundation’s oldest and best known programs, supported entirely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians. The scholarship, whose main purpose is to further international understanding and friendship among people of different countries, was founded in 1947 and has since supported the education and future of over 41,000 people. The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship Program ended in 2013, but the Foundation will continue offering scholarship opportunities through district and global grants and the Rotary Peace Fellowship.
